Our People in the News

We really like to share the latest news about the activities and accomplishments of our composers and artists.

On December 4, Luis Ernesto Gómez’s work for solo flute, Jayéechi, was premiered by Angel Pérez in Caracas, Venezuela. The work is inspired in the wayúu indigenous group that lives on the border between Venezuela and Colombia. The title refers to a kind of song that is used to narrate the group’s transcendent events and stories.

Federico Núñez participated in the “Nights of the Guitar” International Festival in Santiago, Chile, during the first week of this month. In addition, he was part of the Universidad Nacional de las Artes electroacoustic ensemble that recorded a DVD in Argentina that included his work, Empty Star.

Julie Koidin has organized another “roda de choro,” from 8:00-10:00pm today at the Sabor a Café Steakhouse (2435 W. Peterson Ave.) in Chicago, Illinois. Sounds yummy, doesn’t it?

The Orquesta Sinfônica de Santos (Brazil) will be performing a Beatles concert on New Year’s Eve that will include five of Alexandre Travassos’s arrangements.

Luis Pérez Valero writes to announce that he and Meining Cheung will be presenting a paper in Medellín, Colombia, at the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASMP-AL) congress next June.
